State House 72

1. Abortion: The 1973 Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court abortion decision.
Steve Magie (Democrat)
Candidate Refused to Complete the Survey.

James Phillips (Republican)
Oppose
I am strongly opposed to abortion, and I believe it is murder.
2. Guns: Confiscation of firearms from citizens that the government deem a danger to themselves or others, otherwise known as red flag laws.
Steve Magie (Democrat)
Candidate Refused to Complete the Survey.

James Phillips (Republican)
Oppose
The problem with red flag laws is that it directly conflicts with "innocent until proven guilty." You can't prevent someone from buying a gun if they pass a background check without just cause. Red flag laws usurp that and can prohibit people from owning firearms without due process, which is unconstitutional.
3. Marijuana: Amending the Arkansas Constitution to legalize recreational marijuana.
Steve Magie (Democrat)
Candidate Refused to Complete the Survey.

James Phillips (Republican)
Undecided
At the moment, I am supportive of this issue because I don't believe that it's any worse than drinking alcohol. I support recreational usage unless I am confronted with non-biased health reports to convince me otherwise.
4. Taxes: Amending the Arkansas Constitution in 2020 to indefinitely continue the current 0.5% sales and use tax for road construction.
Steve Magie (Democrat)
Candidate Refused to Complete the Survey.

James Phillips (Republican)
Oppose
Although we have to have funding to keep roads in good shape, I am running on lowering taxes.
5. Hate Crimes: Increased penalties for crimes committed because of the victim’s race, gender, or sexual orientation.
Steve Magie (Democrat)
